Smoke Signals

Turning fine cigars into ash since 1985

Hoyo De Monterrey – Rothschild

Hoyo de Monterrey cigar band

Length: 4 1/2 inches

Ring gauge: 50

Wrapper: Ecuadoran Sumatra

Filler: Honduran, Nicaraguan, Dominican

Binder: Connecticut Broadleaf

This short smoke had a rough looking wrapper leaf. You could see a large vein spiraling around the cigar. I clipped the cap with my Xicar and toasted the foot with my triple flame torch.

The cigar was hard to draw smoke from. At first I thought it may have been plugged, but that was not the case. It was just tightly rolled. It burned slightly uneven and there was not a lot of smoke at all. The ash was firm and did not fall off until half the cigar was smoked.

Nicaraguan and Dominican tobaccos are some of my favorites. I think the blend was nicely done. I could only detect a faint sour flavor from the Honduran tobacco.

All in all, this was not a bad cigar. I would not go out of my way to purchase one. But, I would not turn one down if it was offered to me.
